Dorothy Day, Fri., May 18

Our annual day of service for parish and school, Dorothy Day, is named in honor of the late Dorothy Spedoski, a longtime parishioner who exemplified gracious, humble and friendly service to our community. The day begins with Mass at 9AM, followed by a brief awards assembly in the gym.  At about 10:30 students and helpers begin with works of service around our campus, as well as other locations (middle school).  We have parents and friends signed up to help, but we can always use more!  If you are willing to help out, like Dorothy Spedoski, please give the school office a call in advance so we can be organized!  Thank you so much for all you do for the school all year.

We are looking for students who would like to showcase their talents at our school-wide variety show.  Do you have a special talent? Do you like to perform? Do you take part in after-school activities that you would like to share with your school family? We would love for you to be a part of this year’s variety show. Please review and fill out the participation form and return it to Mrs. Kevic by April 18th .  We appreciate your interest and look forward to a very entertaining afternoon on May 15th!

Each family, as agreed to when registering, is required to assist with community service/fundraising activities for our school.  This list includes a variety of activities that are needed for our school to continue to support current programs, fulfill its mission, and remain viable.   Families with children in grades K- 8 are required to sign up for 2 events.  Preschool and DK families are required to sign up for 1 event.  

If you have a skill or interest you would like to share instead of something listed, please give the school office a call.  We welcome your ideas and interests.

Events are "works in progress" and any changes to this list will be communicated as quickly as possible.  Activities are available on a first come, first served basis.  More specific information about the events will be provided by the Coordinator as the date approaches.  Thank you!

Recently many news reports have focused on the victims and perpetrators of sexual assault and abuse.  From national scandals like Bill Cosby, to statewide scandals like Larry Nassar and even in our Rockford community with Tim Vallier our nation is plagued by this terrible epidemic.  One thing that was made evidently clear was that the victims and their families did not know how to respond or react to these situations.  EPOCH Nights have been designed to help empower parents to spotting and addressing potential risks to their families.  Our first EPOCH Night is addressing the topic of sexual assault.  EPOCH stands for Empowered Parents of Christian Households.

Join us to learn more about this impacting topic on May 15th from 6:30-8:30pm.  The night will start with a presentation from professionals and specialists and will move into a panel discussion answering any questions that our audience may have.

Virtus Training

If you have not taken this class, please register for a session and complete this parent requirement.  We know  "another thing" can be difficult to do, but we thank you very much for your attention and participation.
The Virtus training class, Protecting God's Children, is for all people, Catholic or not Catholic, who interact with children in schools and parishes.  You may be carpooling friends of your kids, going  a field trip or attending a classroom event or working a school or parish event that involves children- all these activities require Virtus training.  The intent is to provide information that puts us all on the same page with respect to what a safe environment is and our responsibility in helping to provide it.
It is a one-time training - once you have had it, you are good to go!  Register at virtus.org (set up a user name and pw; select Grand Rapids Diocese, select the session you will attend).  We'll receive notification when you complete the training.  There are many located around the Diocese on different days and different times.  Any session is OK to attend.

Turn off the noise and reconnect with God and nature at this special retreat for Catholic adults, ages 21 to 35, interested in disconnecting from the consumer culture and reconnecting to more simple living and the Catholic faith. Led by Sister Damien Marie Savino, FSE,  we will work, pray, and eat together, learning how to harvest fruits and vegetables, make homemade pies and bread, and care for livestock.  There will be opportunities for spiritual integration along with daily Mass, Adoration, and the Divine Office. Did you ever wonder what life was like in the "olden days"?  What games did children play?  What was their art like? Â What kinds of food did they make and how did they preserve it without refrigeration?  Many colonial and pioneer crafts are simple to make because they were created by the average person using materials readily available during this time period. Join us for three FUN  days of hands on games, craft activities, and food preparation and preservation as we recreate early life in America.  Cost: $90.00  Please go to www.lifeprocesscenter.org to register.

Lunch Duty Schedule

2017-18 Lunch Duty Schedule

Each family assists with lunch supervision during the school year, according to an alphabetical schedule.  The lunch duty schedule is printed each week in the Shamrock, several weeks in advance. Please arrive at 11:15 to sign in at the school office; lunch goes until 12:35.  K-2nd: 11:20-12:05;
6-8th: 11:30-12:00 (Lunch in classrooms);  3-5th: 11:50-12:35.

If you are unable to do lunch duty during your week, you may arrange for a sub.  Subs are contacted and reimbursed directly by you at a rate of $8/day.  If you would like to be a sub, contact the school office - more are always needed!  You may also try switching weeks or days with other families, instead of paying a sub, to make it work for your schedule.

Heartstrings

Heartstrings is a volunteer committee that supports our school community during the special times in our lives.  If there is a family dealing with sickness, the loss of a loved one, celebrating a new birth, or another one of life's many blessings, then we put together a meal or as many that are needed, to show our support and caring.  It is a simple dinner consisting of a main dish, side dish and dessert, either brought to school to send home or maybe delivered by you to the family.  This is an everyday way for us serve others and answer our call to be disciples of Christ.  When Heartstrings are needed, Katie Albert, Heartstrings chair,  will send out an email asking for volunteers for those three items (cooks choice) and the date that we need them.  It is not a huge commitment since we are helping when we are able, and you don't have to help every time.  If you would like to add your name to our list of volunteers or if you are already on our list for Heartstrings and wish to be removed, please contact Katie Albert (616)828-3527 or kmalbert@gmail.com.  Katie would be happy to answer any questions about our wonderful group.

Child care and before/after care began on the first day of school. Your child must be registered with an established schedule before they can attend. Please send all schedule needs to childcare@stpatrickparnellschool.org prior to the first day of school. In addition, please submit a hard copy of the registration form along with the registration fee within the first week of school. For more information regarding these programs please refer to the school website. Uniform Provider

Order How To

Saint Patrick School's uniform provider is Flynn O'Hara - PARENT PORTAL .  You are not required to buy from the provider. However, anything listed on the site is part of our dress code in case you need a visual reference. In addition, the company will embroider our school logo for any items purchased.  For future reference, a link to the portal will be on our website.

Friday School Rosary

The school students gather in the church every Friday afternoon that school is in session to pray the Rosary  (except during Lent when we pray the Stations), at 2:35PM.  All are welcome to join us in this devotion to the Blessed Mother.

First Friday Adoration

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament  follows 9AM Mass until 4PM on every First Friday of the month.   Adorers are need for one-hour time slots and each hour requires at least 2 adorers.  To schedule your visitation hour please call Beth Zambon at 874-7572. All are most welcome to participate in the veneration of the Sacrament of Divine Love.  “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me; let him drink who believes in me. SCRIP
Did you know that with a little planning ahead, SCRIP can lead to big tuition savings?  Last year, participating St. Patrick families saved a combined total of $5000 on their annual tuition costs!  SCRIP is a program where gift cards or gift certificates are purchased and used for the full face value and a percentage of the face value is credited to a specific child’s tuition account. SCRIP can be used at participating grocery stores, gas stations, retail stores, fast food, full service restaurants, etc. Friends and relatives can also purchase SCRIP and apply their proceeds to a specific child’s tuition account.

We collect Box Tops, Tyson proofs of purchase...send them in to the school office!  

The Tyson  Labels can be confusing because they look different on different products.  They are worth .24 cents a label!  Here are some examples:
